CIU

Criminal Intelligence Unit

ROCIC’s Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) assists member agencies with requests for information related to subjects of investigation, fugitives, wanted persons, and other investigative leads.

Through access to law enforcement information and intelligence resources, CIU personnel help investigators identify relevant information, discover potential connections, and develop leads that may assist with ongoing criminal investigations.

Analytical Services

ROCIC analysts help investigators and prosecutors make sense of complex investigative information by transforming large amounts of data into clear, actionable analytical products.

Analytical services can help identify relationships, patterns, timelines, trends, and other connections that may not be readily apparent during an investigation. These products provide investigators with additional insight and help organize information for investigative and prosecutorial use.

Equipment

Specialized Equipment

ROCIC provides member agencies access to specialized investigative equipment that may not otherwise be readily available to them.

The equipment loan program supports a variety of investigative and surveillance needs and allows agencies to use specialized technology without the expense of purchasing equipment for limited or occasional use.

By providing these resources to member agencies, ROCIC helps investigators gather information, document evidence, conduct operations, and support criminal investigations.

Training

ROCIC provides law enforcement training on timely and relevant topics designed to strengthen investigative skills, professional development, and operational effectiveness.

Training opportunities are offered throughout ROCIC’s 14-state service region, at ROCIC headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, and through select online programs.

Courses and conferences provide law enforcement professionals opportunities to expand their knowledge, develop specialized skills, and learn about emerging crime trends, investigative techniques, technology, and officer safety practices.

Digital Forensics

Digital Forensics

ROCIC Digital Forensics assists member agencies with the identification, preservation, examination, and analysis of digital evidence.

Digital forensic analysts work with computers, mobile devices, digital storage media, and other electronic evidence to help investigators locate and recover information that may be relevant to criminal investigations.

Services may include the recovery and analysis of files and other digital data, examination of electronic devices and storage media, and assistance with interpreting digital evidence for investigative and prosecutorial purposes.

A/V Forensics

Audio/Video Forensics

ROCIC Audio/Video Forensics provides specialized examination and enhancement of audio and video evidence to support criminal investigations.

Forensic services can help improve the clarity and usability of recordings, reduce or isolate background noise, enhance video footage, clarify important visual or audio details, and assist investigators in identifying information relevant to a case.

These services help agencies make more effective use of audio and video evidence during investigations and court proceedings.

Publications

Publications

ROCIC develops and distributes criminal intelligence publications and informational resources to help keep member agencies informed about criminal activity, investigative issues, and emerging trends.

Publications may include criminal intelligence bulletins, special reports, crime trend information, and other law enforcement resources designed to provide timely and relevant information to investigators and agencies throughout the ROCIC region.

RISS Information Sharing & Officer Safety

RISSIntel

RISSIntel is the RISS Criminal Intelligence Database and provides authorized users with secure access to millions of criminal intelligence records.

Through a real-time federated search, RISSIntel allows users to search more than 60 RISS and partner intelligence databases, including state intelligence systems, fusion centers, and other participating law enforcement information systems.

RISSIntel helps agencies identify connections between individuals, organizations, locations, vehicles, telephone numbers, and other information that may be relevant to criminal investigations while promoting information sharing and coordination among law enforcement agencies.

RISSafe

RISSafe is the RISS Officer Safety Event Deconfliction System, designed to help protect law enforcement personnel and prevent operational conflicts between agencies.

Law enforcement agencies can enter planned operations and investigative events into RISSafe to determine whether another agency may be conducting activity in the same area at the same time.

When a potential conflict is identified, participating agencies can be notified so they can coordinate their activities, helping protect officers, preserve investigations, and improve communication between agencies.

RISSafe is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is available to law enforcement agencies regardless of RISS membership.

RISS Resources

The RISS Secure Cloud (RISSNET) provides authorized users with secure access to a wide range of law enforcement information-sharing, investigative, and officer safety resources.

Through RISSNET, law enforcement professionals can access RISS systems and other resources designed to help agencies share information, identify investigative connections, coordinate activities, and support criminal investigations across jurisdictional boundaries.

These resources extend the capabilities available to individual agencies by connecting them with a nationwide network of law enforcement information and services.
